Description

Cacik is a refreshing Turkish yogurt and cucumber dip that combines creamy Greek yogurt with grated cucumber, fresh dill, and a hint of garlic. Perfect as a light appetizer or a cooling side dish, it is enhanced with olive oil, lemon juice, and a sprinkle of sumac for a tangy finish.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 1 cup plain Greek yoghurt
  • 1 cucumber (about 300g), deseeded and grated
  • 1 bunch dill (about 50g), finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • Pinch of sumac, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cucumber: Coarsely grate the cucumber, then wrap it in a clean tea towel and squeeze out the excess water. This step ensures your Cacik is not watery and has a perfect creamy consistency.
  2. Mix the Ingredients: In a bowl, combine the Greek yoghurt, grated cucumber, finely chopped dill, and minced garlic. Season with salt and pepper to taste, then add the extra virgin olive oil and lemon juice. Stir everything together until well combined.
  3. Serve: Transfer the mixture to a serving bowl, garnish with a pinch of sumac on top, and serve chilled as a dip or side dish.

Notes

  • For a thinner consistency, add a little cold water or more lemon juice as desired.
  • Use full-fat Greek yoghurt for a richer taste or low-fat yoghurt for a lighter option.
  • Sumac adds a tangy, lemony flavor, but it can be omitted if unavailable.
  • Can be garnished with additional fresh herbs like mint for variation.
  • Keep refrigerated and consume within 2 days for best freshness.
