Ingredients
Scale
Apple Filling
- 2 tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter
- 2 cups diced Granny Smith apples (about 2 medium apples or 200g)
- 2 tablespoons (25g) granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Dough
- 1 can crescent rolls (8 rolls)
Caramel Frosting
- 2 tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup (50g) packed brown sugar
- 2-3 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
- 1/2 cup (57g) powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking the rolls.
- Prepare Apple Filling: In a skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Add diced Granny Smith apples, granulated sugar, and cinnamon. Sauté the mixture for about 5-7 minutes until the apples are tender and caramelized. Once done, remove the skillet from heat and let the filling cool slightly.
- Prepare Crescents: Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a flat surface and separate it into 8 individual triangles.
- Assemble Rolls: Evenly spoon the caramelized apple filling onto each triangle. Starting from the wide end, carefully roll up each triangle to form individual rolls.
- Bake Rolls: Place the assembled rolls in a greased baking dish or on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the rolls turn golden brown and cooked through.
- Make Caramel Frosting: While the rolls bake, melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add brown sugar and stir continuously. Then add 2-3 tablespoons of heavy whipping cream and bring the mixture to a simmer. Cook for 2-3 minutes until slightly thickened. Remove from heat and whisk in powdered sugar and vanilla extract until the frosting is smooth and creamy.
- Serve: Drizzle the warm caramel frosting generously over the baked cinnamon rolls. Serve immediately while warm for the best taste experience.
Notes
- Use Granny Smith apples for a perfect balance of tartness and sweetness that caramelizes well.
- Let the apple filling cool slightly before spreading it on the dough to prevent it from becoming too soggy.
- You can adjust the amount of cinnamon to your liking for more or less spice.
- For thicker frosting, increase the powdered sugar slightly or reduce the cream.
- These rolls are best served fresh and warm but can be reheated gently in the oven.
