Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Other
- 1 cup white sugar
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan to prevent sticking.
- Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, add the all-purpose flour, sugar, milk, eggs, softened butter, baking powder, vanilla extract, and salt.
- Mix Batter: Stir the mixture slowly to moisten all ingredients, then use an electric mixer to beat at medium speed for approximately 2 minutes until the batter is smooth and well combined.
- Separate Chocolate Batter: Set aside ¾ cup of the prepared batter in a separate bowl. Pour the remaining batter into the prepared cake pan evenly.
- Add Cocoa to Reserved Batter: Add the unsweetened cocoa powder to the reserved ¾ cup batter and stir until the chocolate mixture is evenly colored and smooth.
- Create Marble Effect: Drop large spoonfuls of the chocolate batter onto the vanilla batter in the cake pan. Use a knife or skewer to gently swirl the two batters together to create a marbled pattern without fully mixing them.
- Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake emerges clean.
- Cool Cake: Allow the cake to cool briefly on a wire rack. Then carefully invert it onto a serving plate or cooling rack and let it cool completely before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Make sure not to over-swirl the batters to maintain the marble effect.
- Using room temperature butter improves batter consistency and cake texture.
- You can substitute milk with any dairy-free alternative if desired.
- This cake pairs wonderfully with a dusting of powdered sugar or a light glaze.
- Store leftover cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
