Ingredients
Scale
Meat
- 4 to 6 slices of round steak (approximately 2 lbs)
Gravy and Vegetables
- 2 pouches onion gravy mix
- 2 cups hot water
- 1 medium yellow onion, sliced
- 2 cups diced mushrooms
- 3 cloves garlic, peeled and smashed
- 2 tbsp butter, divided
Instructions
- Sauté Vegetables: Set the Instant Pot to sauté mode and add 1 tablespoon of butter. Sauté the sliced onions, smashed garlic, and diced mushrooms until the mushrooms are golden brown and tender, releasing their moisture and flavor.
- Add Steak and Gravy Mix: Place the seared steak slices on top of the sautéed vegetables in the Instant Pot. In a separate bowl, mix the 2 pouches of onion gravy mix with 2 cups of hot water, stirring to fully dissolve. Pour the gravy mixture evenly over the steak and vegetables.
- Cook Under Pressure: Seal the Instant Pot lid and set it to the “Meat” or “High Pressure” cooking mode for 20 minutes to tenderize the steak thoroughly.
- Release and Serve: Once the cooking time is complete, carefully release the steam using the quick-release method. Open the lid, stir gently, and serve the steak and gravy hot over your choice of side dishes.
- Alternative Crock Pot Method: Combine all ingredients in the slow cooker. Cook on low heat for 8 hours until the meat is fork-tender and flavors meld beautifully.
- Alternative Oven Method: Place all ingredients into a covered roasting pan. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 2 to 2.5 hours, or until the meat is tender and the gravy is thickened.
