Ingredients
Scale
Rolls and Cheese
- 12 Hawaiian rolls
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 36 slices pepperoni
Sauce and Seasoning
- 1/2 cup pizza sauce
- 4 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
Garnish
- Fresh basil or parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Dish: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
- Make Seasoned Butter: In a small bowl, mix the melted butter with garlic powder and Italian seasoning to create a flavorful topping.
- Slice Rolls: Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally, keeping the rolls connected as a whole, then place the bottom half flat in the prepared baking dish.
- Assemble Pizza Layers: Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the bottom half of the rolls, then add a layer of shredded mozzarella cheese, followed by slices of pepperoni, and top with another layer of mozzarella cheese.
- Add Top Rolls: Place the top half of the Hawaiian rolls over the layered ingredients to form a complete sandwich.
- Brush with Seasoned Butter: Brush the tops of the rolls generously with the seasoned butter mixture to enhance flavor and promote browning.
- Bake Covered: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 15 minutes to allow the cheese to melt and the flavors to meld.
- Bake Uncovered: Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5–7 minutes until the tops are golden brown and the cheese is fully melted.
- Finish and Serve: Sprinkle the baked rolls with grated parmesan cheese and chopped fresh basil or parsley. Allow the rolls to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Keep the rolls connected while slicing to maintain the slider format.
- Use fresh herbs for garnish to add brightness and a fresh aroma.
- Covering the rolls while baking helps melt the cheese without drying out the tops.
- Serve warm for the best texture and flavor experience.
- You can substitute pepperoni with other deli meats or vegetarian toppings if desired.
