Sandwich
- 1 large Italian sub roll or ciabatta bread
- 4 slices salami
- 4 slices pepperoni
- 4 slices ham or capicola
- 4 slices provolone or mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 4 slices tomato
- 2 tbsp red onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp banana peppers (optional)
Dressing & Spread
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp red wine vinegar
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 tbsp mayonnaise or Dijon mustard (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for toasting the sandwich.
- Prepare Bread: Slice the Italian sub roll or ciabatta bread in half horizontally to create a top and bottom half.
- Layer Meats and Cheese: On the bottom half of the bread, layer the salami, pepperoni, ham (or capicola), and provolone or mozzarella cheese evenly.
- Add Vegetables: Top the meats and cheese with shredded lettuce, sliced tomato, thinly sliced red onion, and optional banana peppers for added flavor and crunch.
- Season and Dress: Drizzle the olive oil and red wine vinegar over the sandwich fillings and sprinkle with Italian seasoning to infuse the sandwich with classic Italian flavors.
- Spread Optional Condiments: If desired, spread mayonnaise or Dijon mustard on the inside of the top half of the bread for a creamy texture and extra zing.
- Assemble Sandwich: Place the sandwich halves together, ensuring fillings are secure, then wrap the entire sandwich tightly in aluminum foil.
- Toast Sandwich: Place the wrapped sandwich in the preheated oven and toast for 5-7 minutes, or until the bread is crispy and the cheese has melted.
- Serve: Carefully remove the sandwich from the oven, unwrap the foil, slice into portions, and serve warm for the best taste experience.
Notes
- You can customize the sandwich by changing the types of deli meats or cheese to suit your preference.
- Banana peppers add a nice tangy kick but can be omitted if you prefer a milder flavor.
- Wrapping the sandwich in foil helps melt the cheese evenly and crisps the bread without drying it out.
- For a crunchier crust, unwrap the foil during the last 2 minutes of toasting.
- This sandwich is best enjoyed fresh and warm but can be refrigerated and reheated wrapped in foil.
