Description

This Slow Cooker Chicken and Gravy recipe delivers tender, juicy chicken breasts cooked low and slow in a creamy, flavorful gravy made from chicken gravy mix, cream of chicken soup, and a blend of spices. Perfect for an easy, comforting dinner, it can be served over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles for a hearty meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts

Gravy

  • 2 packets chicken gravy mix
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) cream of chicken soup
  • 1 1/2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Optional

  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (for thickening)
  • 2 tablespoons water (for thickening)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chicken: Place the boneless skinless chicken breasts in the bottom of your slow cooker to form an even layer, ensuring they cook evenly.
  2. Make the gravy mixture: In a medium bowl, whisk together the chicken gravy mix, cream of chicken soup, low-sodium chicken broth, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper until smooth and well combined.
  3. Combine and cook: Pour the prepared gravy mixture over the chicken breasts in the slow cooker, making sure the chicken is fully covered by the sauce. Cover the slow cooker with its lid.
  4. Slow cook the chicken: Cook on low heat for 6 to 7 hours or on high heat for 3 to 4 hours, until the chicken is tender, fully cooked, and easily shredded with a fork.
  5. Shred or serve whole: Choose to shred the chicken directly in the gravy or leave the breasts whole, depending on your preference. Stir the chicken into the gravy to combine.
  6. Optional thickening step: If you prefer a thicker gravy, mix the cornstarch with water to make a slurry. Stir this into the slow cooker, then cover and cook on high for an additional 15 minutes before serving. This will thicken the gravy nicely.

Notes

  • Serve the slow cooker chicken and gravy over warm mashed potatoes, cooked rice, or egg noodles for a complete, hearty meal.
  • For a richer flavor, you can substitute boneless chicken thighs in place of chicken breasts.
  • If you want to reduce sodium, choose low-sodium or homemade gravy mix and broth.
  • This recipe can be doubled for larger gatherings using a larger slow cooker.
